Game drives are without doubt the highlight of your safari to Murchison Falls National Park. Pakuba Safari Lodge is situated in the area with the highest animal population and luckily for you, animals can be viewed from your doorstep. Game drives in Murchison Falls National Park last for approximately three to four depending on your interests. Chances of spotting both the Lions and leopard in Murchison Falls are quite good. Wildlife species often seen include Giraffes, herds of buffaloes, Ugandan kob, oribi, waterbucks, hartebeest, sitatunga, bushbucks, warthogs, duikers, mongoose, genet, hyenas, jackals, dozens of elephants and reedbuck.
Our safari game drives are available for morning and evening trips, as this is when the animals are most active. We have game rangers stationed at the lodge to guide you during your game drive through the reserve, encountering many animals along the way. If you have a particular area of interest, you’re welcome to inform your guide who will include it along the journey.

Morning game drives
The early morning game drives start just before sunrise. You will be woken up by a cup of steaming hot Ugandan coffee at 6 o’clock and set off for your game drive at 6:30 am. As the sun rises, we are out on the savannah, taking in the fresh smell of the moist grasses and observing the scenic nature and its amazing wildlife.
Return to the lodge to either take a plunge in the swimming into our swimming pool or relax at your private veranda with a good book or simply take pleasure in the plentiful wildlife that come walks right in front of the lodge /your room.
Afternoon game drives
Enjoy a delicious lunch and spend the afternoon basking in the sun at the poolside. Afternoon game drives usually starts in the late afternoon and one returns to camp just before the darkness fall upon
At around 16:00 o’clock the ‘afternoon game drive’ sets off, and also takes about 3 to 4 hours. Make sure you stop at your favourite spot to catch the beautiful sunset. Afterwards drive back to the lodge in time for dinner.
Night Game Drives in Murchison Falls
Night game drives offer a whole new dimension to a safari and allows you experience the mysteries of the bush after dark. The feeling and the smells of the savannah are completely different, stronger, quieter, with all plain game alert and watchful. Night game drives offer you a chance to see rare nocturnal creatures such as the porcupine and catch a glimpse an elusive leopard or other predators that are on the prowl under cover of darkness. You will be thrilled to see big cat predators prepare themselves for their nightly hunts.
